David Moyes has used Kagawa sparingly so far this season and even pulled him off at half time during United's most recent Premier League loss to West Brom.
Dortmund idolise Kagawa and won two Bundesliga titles in a row with the Japanese midfielder being a vital cog in the playmaker role. United have failed to utilise Kagawa's talent, and much like Juan Mata's situation at Chelsea, it is unknown as to exactly why David Moyes does not want to play him.
Kagawa was quoted this week in saying that he felt he was 'fighting for his life' at Old Trafford and it is thought that if his situation within the United set-up does not change, then he will push for a transfer away from Old Trafford.
Dortmund would jump at the chance to bring Kagawa back to Germany and their fans recently started a '#FreeShinji' campaign on twitter for the club to re-sign the former fan favourites.
United would be looking to recoup most of the £18m they payed Dortmund just over a year ago, but with his status being that of squad player, it is unlikely they would receive such a fee for his services and may have to settle for considerably less.
