Gareth Bale's Agent Reveals Details About Transfer and Claims Another Club Offered More Money

The agent behind the world record transfer of Gareth Bale from Tottenham to Real Madrid, Jonathan Barnett, has given an exclusive interview to Spanish TV about the suspected €100 million transfer.

Speaking to Spanish football show Jugones, Barnett sensationally claimed that another club, highly suspected to have been Manchester United, had made an offer that topped the Spanish side's one and that was the reason the transfer was dragged out over the entire summer. He also revealed that the period was very difficult for his client and that the deal had almost collapsed

"The signing of Bale came close to falling apart. Tottenham made a bid for Bale to stay. Meetings were not always peace and love, some were harsh with disagreements."

"Bale needed a few days off so he asked permission from Tottenham [to go to Marbella]. The player spoke to no-one, he was not with anyone and he saw no-one. He’s strong, but that must have been torture for him."

"The Spanish press didn’t understand why Tottenham weren’t agreeing to the money, but if Tottenham needed money the deal would have been done the first day. Moreover, there was a club that offered more money than Real Madrid. A lot more money."

“Bale has played in the Premiership and has won many awards. To me, he’s better than Neymar."
